In 1994, he earned membership in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) in veterinary dentistry and later completed a Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc) by thesis in 1998.
His groundbreaking thesis, Atlas of the Radiographic Closure of the Apices of the Teeth of the Dog, remains a seminal work in the field.
In 2010, Professor Gary Wilson achieved Diplomate status with the International College of Equine Veterinary Odontologists (ICEVO) and was subsequently recognized as a Founding Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC) Equine Specialty in 2013.
