The Practitioner’s Program has fit my non-stop, ambulatory vet lifestyle perfectly. It is full of refreshers on fundamentals, such as lameness and imaging, and provides new and concise treatments for so many issues, like colic and wound care. I will listen to modules on my way to a case, like cardiology or dermatology and feel more confident in my approaches and treatments. In a demanding profession it is incredibly helpful to have this information readily available on such important topics. Especially with a whole community counting on me to be ready to treat any condition that walks through the barn. Highly recommend this dentistry course to anyone thinking about starting their own equine practice or anyone who is already in business! There is always room to grow! After feeling super stagnant in small animal practice I felt pulled towards starting out on my own. After graduation I had dabbled in equine dentistry and decided this is the path I’d love the explore however I had zero idea on how to start a business. I’m Dr. Olivia James, the founder behind The Equine Practice Company.
Like many of you, my journey in equine veterinary medicine wasn’t paved with gold. It was a road marked by challenges, hard work, long hours and a relentless passion for equine medicine. Since starting my veterinary journey in mixed practice in rural NSW, Australia in 2003, I then moved into equine practice (and then into my own equine practice!) and I’ve been dedicated to supporting, educating and advocating for my colleagues ever since.
The beginnings of The Equine Practice Company started with a volunteer mission in Indonesia where I met a local veterinarian who asked for my help with furthering her education. This was Dr Peni, and she changed my life. It made me realize the immense need for accessible and practical continuing education that was specifically for the equine veterinarian, no matter where you lived.
Not just for the sake of education, but to also get the practical skills and knowledge into the hands and minds of the veterinarians at the coal face so they could better help their patients. At the end of the day, we are all here for the love of the horse, and there isn’t a single one of us who didn’t wish they could be a better vet at one time or another.
I was inspired into action to unite top equine experts from all around the world to provide easily accessible, high-quality, clinically-based online learning for equine veterinarians worldwide.
My approach is grounded in real-world experience as a student, recent grad, and associate and then practice owner, all the way through to qualifying and practicing as a specialist. You could say that I have been through all the cycles of a vets career (including selling my practice!), giving me a deep understanding of the challenges that we as veterinarians face, and the knowledge that practical, on-demand education can transform equine veterinary practice, and the patients and providers.

I’m Dr Sue Dyson, and my passion for equine medicine is rooted in decades of dedicated research and clinical practice. After graduating from Cambridge and furthering my studies at the University of Pennsylvania, I spent over 37 years at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, focusing on equine orthopaedics.
In my career, I’ve had the privilege of contributing over 330 papers to peer-reviewed journals, focusing on lameness and diagnostic imaging in equine medicine. This work, alongside my global lectures, underscores my commitment to veterinary education and research.
I’ve also served as the President of the British Equine Veterinary Association and currently offer my expertise as a scientific advisor to the Saddle Research Trust and Moorcroft Rehabilitation Centre, roles that allow me to continue influencing and improving equine health care.
My personal connection to horses extends to my own riding, where I’ve competed in top national level eventing and show jumping, deeply intertwining my professional and personal life in the equestrian world.

Dr. Dennis Brooks

With over four decades dedicated to equine ophthalmology, Dr. Dennis Brooks is internationally recognised for his groundbreaking contributions to horse eye care. He has performed more successful corneal surgeries than any other veterinarian worldwide and continues to influence how ophthalmology is taught and practiced across the globe.
Board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists since 1984, Dr. Brooks has trained residents, mentored thousands of veterinary students, and lectured extensively on six continents. As Professor Emeritus at the University of Florida, he combines rigorous scientific knowledge with unparalleled surgical experience, ensuring his teaching is both authoritative and practical.
Best known for pioneering corneal transplantation, cataract surgery, and amnion grafting in horses, he is also the author of the definitive textbook Equine Ophthalmology. His achievements have been recognised with multiple international awards, including the AAEP Distinguished Educator Award and BEVA’s Sir Frederick Smith Memorial Medal.
Today, Dr. Brooks continues to share his expertise through international teaching and clinical training programs, with a clear focus on one enduring goal: preventing blindness in horses by equipping veterinarians with the skills and confidence to act decisively in the field.

Kristie Morris

I’m Kristie Morris, and my journey with horses started when I was 12. I bought my first horse at 15 and soon began a rewarding journey with the Walker family of Marena Stud. My 18 years there deepened my understanding of stud operations, riding academies, and competition. While working on the stud, I met Dr Jennifer Stewart who I would later work with in veterinary clinical nutrition for 8yrs.
As a qualified equine vet nurse with a Diploma in Agriculture, focusing on animal nutrition, I found a shared passion for veterinary science and education with Dr Olivia James. This led to our collaboration today. I’m committed to the well-being of veterinarians and actively participate in conferences and seminars.
At home in mid-coast New South Wales (Australia), I run a farm with Belted Galloway cattle, Suffolk sheep, and a thriving vegetable garden.

After graduating I found myself working in a rural area without the ability to easily expand my knowledge in equine dentistry. I wanted the principles and basics of dentistry as well as more advanced options and treatment for my patients. I recently completed the Equine Dentistry Platinum Program to prepare for my Membership Exams in Equine Dentistry with the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. The Equine Practice Company’s lameness program is like no other course I’ve taken. As a mixed animal veterinarian it is easy to feel intimidated in the equine world…especially in terms of lameness! However, this program progresses naturally from start to finish with no detail of a proper lameness assessment overlooked. As I am also a practice owner, my time is often limited, especially for in-person courses. This program is not only convenient but contains huge amounts of good quality, live footage to make you feel as though you’re right there. It’s the type of course that has you eager for more and is easily applicable so that from the start you can start implementing the skills into your own practice (I know I sure have!). Most impressive though is that since starting the course it’s not uncommon for me to complete several modules on weekends or time off; simply because it’s so enjoyable! Well done!

This course was the perfect way for me to get the advanced lameness training I have been needing and wanting without having to press pause on my family and vet practice. The organization of the lectures lets the material really build on itself and the lectures themselves are very practical. I am half way through the course and already exponentially better at my lameness work ups and the course is paying for itself. Thank you so much for the opportunity to learn under Dr. Dyson and the other skilled practitioners from around the globe that are a part of this lecture series.
After years of small animal only practice and time off from starting a family I decided to start my own sole vet ambulatory equine practice with a major focus of dentistry and preventative health. The dentistry program has helped me immensely with feeling more capable of offering quality care to my patients. Dentistry isn’t well covered at university as we all know so this program has been a godsend for building on the little knowledge gained at University. It’s great to be able to listen to the lectures in the car on the way to a client as I am super time poor and struggle to fit in dedicated study time at home. Highly recommend this for any equine or mixed practice vet that is seeing horses.
Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I’m the one that writes the lectures, teaches and tutors the [dentistry] workshops but the “Equine Dentistry Program” gave me access to world renowned lecturers, a solidification of the basics, and cutting edge new theories and techniques.
