PEVA – Polish Equine Veterinary Association: History, Mission & Congress
The Polish Equine Veterinary Association (PEVA) is the national professional body representing veterinarians working in equine practice in Poland.
Founded in 2002, PEVA supports equine practitioners through continuing education, professional representation, and international collaboration.
As Poland’s equine sector has expanded over the past two decades, PEVA has become the central organisation coordinating training, welfare standards, and professional exchange for Polish equine veterinarians, while actively contributing to Europe-wide veterinary initiatives.
What is PEVA?
The Polish Equine Veterinary Association (PEVA) is Poland’s national organisation for equine veterinarians. It was established in 2002 to provide education, professional representation, and international collaboration for vets working with horses.
History of the Polish Equine Veterinary Association
PEVA was founded in 2002 in response to the growing need for a dedicated organisation focused exclusively on equine veterinary practice in Poland.
Prior to its establishment, Polish equine veterinarians were represented only indirectly within broader veterinary structures. PEVA filled this gap by creating a professional home for horse vets, focused on:
- Improving clinical standards
- Supporting continuing education
- Representing Poland within European equine veterinary networks
Since its formation, PEVA has steadily expanded its educational activities and international engagement with the like of FEEVA (Federation of European Equine Veterinary Associations), becoming a recognised voice for Polish equine veterinarians within Europe.
PEVA’s Role in a Rapidly Developing Equine Sector
Poland’s equine veterinary landscape has evolved rapidly over the past two decades, driven by growth in sport horse disciplines, breeding, and international competition.
PEVA plays a critical role in this development by:
- Supporting practitioners transitioning into advanced equine practice
- Facilitating access to modern diagnostics and treatment standards
- Connecting Polish veterinarians with European expertise and guidelines
This makes PEVA particularly relevant in Central and Eastern Europe, where equine practice continues to professionalise at pace.
Mission & Objectives
The mission of PEVA is to strengthen equine veterinary medicine in Poland and support practitioners through education, representation, and collaboration. Its objectives include:
- Continuing education: Organising scientific lectures, workshops, and practical training for equine vets.
- Professional advocacy: Representing Polish equine veterinarians in national and European discussions.
- Knowledge sharing: Encouraging collaboration between practitioners, academics, and researchers.
- Equine welfare: Promoting evidence-based care and responsible veterinary standards.
- International integration: Actively participating in FEEVA and engaging with associations abroad.
