Dr. Warwick Vale – Equine Veterinarian, Veterinary Leader and Educator
BSc BVMS (HONS II) AVA Fellow

Few veterinarians have contributed to the Australian equine profession as broadly as Dr. Warwick Vale.
Over more than three decades, Warwick has built a career that spans clinical equine practice, international equestrian sport, veterinary leadership, education and mentoring.
He has treated thousands of horses, advised veterinary businesses, represented Australia at the highest levels of equestrian competition, and helped shape the future of the veterinary profession through leadership within the Australian Veterinary Association.
Today, Dr. Warwick Vale brings that depth of experience to The Equine Practice Company community, where he helps veterinarians develop the clinical judgement, confidence and practical decision-making needed to succeed in modern equine practice.
Whether he is teaching in the classroom, mentoring young veterinarians or sharing lessons learned from decades in the field, Dr. Vale’s approach remains the same: practical, evidence-based and focused on improving outcomes for both horses and the veterinarians who care for them.

A Lifetime Dedicated to Equine Veterinary Practice
Dr. Warwick Vale began his veterinary career in mixed practice shortly after graduating from Murdoch University. It quickly became apparent that his passion lay with horses, inspired by a lifelong involvement in equestrian sport and riding.
That passion has guided every stage of his career.
Over the years he has owned and led successful equine practices, worked as a consulting veterinarian, mentored countless young clinicians and remained actively involved in advancing equine veterinary medicine throughout Australia.
His experience extends well beyond everyday clinical work. Warwick has combined practical veterinary practice with leadership, governance, education and international consultancy, giving him a unique perspective on the challenges facing equine veterinarians today.

International Experience in Equine Sport
Dr. Warwick Vale’s career has taken him far beyond Australia.
As an internationally recognised FEI Veterinary Delegate, he has officiated at Olympic Games, World Games, Championships and major international equestrian competitions.
His work with Equestrian Australia and the Fédération Équestre Internationale has seen him collaborate with some of the world’s leading riders, officials and veterinary teams while maintaining the highest standards of equine welfare and competition integrity.
One of the highlights of his career was serving as the Foreign Veterinary Delegate at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.
During his extensive involvement in Indonesia, Dr. Warwick Vale also played an important role in mentoring local equine veterinarians and helping establish the country’s first operational equine surgical hospital, an achievement that reflects both his commitment to veterinary education and his willingness to invest in the long-term development of the profession.
Leading the Veterinary Profession
While Warwick Vale is widely respected as an equine clinician, he is equally recognised for his leadership within the veterinary profession.
He served as President of the Australian Veterinary Association, following several years as a Director and Fellow of the organisation.
Throughout these leadership roles he has worked to strengthen the profession, advocate for veterinarians and contribute to initiatives supporting veterinary wellbeing, governance and professional standards.
His ability to combine practical clinical experience with strategic leadership has made him a trusted voice across the Australian veterinary industry.
Practice Owner, Mentor and Business Leader
Dr. Warwick Vale understands that becoming a great veterinarian requires far more than clinical knowledge.
As the co-owner of a successful equine hospital and later founder of Vale Veterinary and Consulting Services, he has firsthand experience of the realities of veterinary business ownership.
He understands the pressures of leading teams, managing clients, growing practices and helping young veterinarians develop into confident clinicians.
This combination of clinical expertise and business leadership allows Warwick to mentor veterinarians from every stage of their careers, from recent graduates through to experienced practice owners. His teaching is grounded in real-world experience rather than theory alone.
A Practical Approach to Veterinary Education
One of Dr. Warwick’s greatest strengths is his ability to teach complex topics in a practical, approachable way.
Colleagues and students consistently value his calm teaching style, thoughtful clinical reasoning and willingness to share both successes and mistakes from his own career.
Rather than presenting textbook answers, Dr. Warwick Vale focuses on helping veterinarians develop sound judgement, improve decision-making and build confidence when faced with challenging cases.
His philosophy reflects decades spent working in the field, mentoring colleagues and continually learning himself.
