With over fifteen years of experience spanning clinical medicine, academic teaching, and professional leadership, Sarah Eaton has established herself as a highly respected figure in equine theriogenology and integrative veterinary practice.

Her career reflects a rare balance of hands-on expertise, research-driven precision, and a deep commitment to the advancement of both animal and human well-being within the veterinary profession.

A Strong Foundation in Veterinary Medicine

A proud graduate of Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, Sarah Eaton earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.) in 2006, setting the foundation for a career defined by curiosity and compassion.

Shortly after graduation, she undertook a rigorous equine internship at Durango Veterinary Clinic in Arizona, where she honed her clinical skills in lameness evaluation, sports medicine, and emergency care for high-performance horses.

Driven by an enduring interest in reproductive medicine, she pursued advanced specialty training at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) in Saskatoon, Canada. Under the mentorship of Dr. Claire Card, she completed a demanding residency in theriogenology, focusing on equine fertility, reproductive pathology, and assisted breeding techniques.

Her dedication to excellence culminated in her earning the title of Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists (DACT) in 2009.

Pioneering Work Across Clinical and Academic Settings

Sarah Eaton’s professional path has spanned multiple sectors of veterinary medicine. Early in her career, she gained extensive experience in mixed animal and equine referral practice across Canada, where she provided specialized reproductive and neonatal care for mares and foals.

Her work later extended to the Thoroughbred breeding industry in New York, where she played an integral role in broodmare management and foal care, helping to optimize breeding outcomes for elite performance horses.

In 2021, her dedication to ongoing professional development led to another major milestone: board certification in equine practice through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (DABVP–Equine).

That same spirit of lifelong learning is also reflected in her certification in veterinary acupuncture from the Chi Institute, which she integrates into her evidence-based approach to patient care. This combination of conventional and complementary medicine allows her to address both performance optimization and holistic wellness in equine patients.

Currently serving as an Associate Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine, Sarah Eaton plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of veterinarians. She develops and teaches core courses in equine clinical skills, theriogenology, and advanced large animal medicine, blending scientific depth with hands-on learning.

As the faculty advisor for the university’s Integrative and Sports Medicine Student Club, she provides guidance and inspiration for students exploring alternative therapies and athletic medicine. Her approachable demeanor and passion for mentorship have made her a valued presence within the academic community.
