Naomi Chiero
DVM

Naomi Chiero is one of the nation’s leading experts in equine dentistry and a highly respected voice in veterinary medicine. As the second board-certified equine veterinary dentist in the state of Ohio, Chiero has dedicated her career to elevating the standards of oral health care for horses while training the next generation of veterinarians.
Her journey from a Minnesota cattle farm to international recognition in equine dentistry reflects both her lifelong passion for animals and her relentless commitment to excellence.
From Farm Roots to Veterinary Calling
Raised on a beef production farm in rural Minnesota, Naomi Chiero grew up immersed in animal care and agriculture. As a second-generation veterinarian, she was surrounded by the values of hard work, compassion, and service to animals from an early age. Her love for horses began as a teenager while showing working cow horses in 4-H.
Despite modest beginnings in the show ring, the experience sparked a deep fascination with horses that would ultimately shape her professional path.
Academic Excellence and Veterinary Training
Naomi Chiero began her higher education at Cedarville University in Ohio, where she was first introduced to the world of competitive show horses while working at a local barn. She went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011, with a focus on large animal care.
Following graduation, she completed a rigorous internship at Kendall Road Equine Hospital, where she gained intensive experience in equine surgery, emergency care, and sports medicine. In 2013, she returned to Ohio State as an ambulatory veterinarian and clinical instructor, spending the next eight years teaching senior veterinary students and interns while providing field-based equine care.
Specialization in Equine Dentistry
It was during her tenure at Ohio State that Chiero pursued advanced training in equine dentistry, completing her residency under the mentorship of Dr. Jack Easley and Dr. David Reiswig, two of the foremost leaders in the field. Her residency allowed her to work on complex referral dental cases and expand her expertise across species, including occasional work with zoo animals and ruminants.
Naomi Chiero’s training extended far beyond Ohio. Over the course of her residency, she studied alongside twelve board-certified equine dental specialists in eight U.S. states, as well as in England and Austria, gaining a global perspective on advanced equine oral care.
In recognition of her dedication and skill, she successfully passed her board examinations and achieved Diplomate status with the American Veterinary Dental College (Equine).

Leadership, Teaching, and Clinical Impact
As one of only a handful of board-certified equine veterinary dentists in the United States, Naomi Chiero brings unparalleled expertise to her role at Equine Veterinary Dental Services in Newark, Ohio. She provides both primary and referral-level care in advanced equine dentistry, with clinical interests that include corrective dental procedures, oral surgery, and preventative dental health programs.
Her contributions extend well beyond the clinic. During her years at Ohio State, Naomi Chiero served as a trusted mentor to veterinary students and interns, instilling both technical knowledge and the values of compassion and precision in practice.
Today, she continues to share her expertise through professional presentations, training opportunities, and speaking engagements that highlight the importance of equine dental health in overall equine welfare.
A Life Rooted in Family and Community
While her professional achievements are remarkable, Naomi’s personal story reflects the balance and perspective she brings to her career. She resides in Columbus, Ohio, with her husband, whom she met during her veterinary studies, and their two young children. Away from the hospital and barn, she enjoys gardening, baking, and helping her husband restore their 120-year-old home.
