Dr. Laura Quiney – Advancing Standards in Equine Diagnostic Imaging
BVSc MRCVS

Among the most influential figures shaping modern equine diagnostic imaging, Dr. Laura Quiney BVSc MRCVS has built a career defined by clinical excellence, deep technical expertise, and an unwavering commitment to advancing veterinary education.
With a professional path that spans world-renowned referral centres, high-performance clinical roles, and senior leadership positions within major continuing education providers, she has become one of the field’s most respected authorities.
Today, as Chief Operating Officer of VetPD, Dr. Laura Quiney plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality professional development to veterinarians across the globe.
A Strong Foundation in Veterinary Science
Dr. Laura Quiney graduated from the University of Bristol, where she established the academic foundation that would later support her work in advanced imaging and orthopaedics.
Immediately after graduation, she secured a highly competitive equine internship at the Animal Health Trust (AHT) in Newmarket, a centre internationally recognised for excellence in lameness diagnosis and performance-related investigations.
Working under the guidance of Dr Sue Dyson and other leading specialists, she was immersed in the complexities of equine orthopaedics from the earliest stage of her career.
This formative year at the AHT provided the clinical exposure and training that fuelled her interest in diagnostic imaging, a discipline she would go on to master and eventually teach.
Early Clinical Practice and Expanded Skill Development
Following her internship, Dr. Laura Quiney joined a busy equine ambulatory practice, where she broadened her clinical experience by managing a diverse caseload of sport and leisure horses. The fast-paced environment strengthened her skills in lameness evaluation, preventative medicine, emergency work, and client communication.
It also allowed her to gain a real-world understanding of how imaging and performance medicine intersect with everyday equine practice.
Her ability to translate advanced diagnostic principles into practical clinical decision-making later became one of her greatest strengths as an educator.

Advanced Imaging Training at the Animal Health Trust
In 2014, Dr. Laura Quiney returned to the AHT to pursue three years of intensive diagnostic imaging training. During this period she received expert instruction in:
- Radiography
- Ultrasonography
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Scintigraphy
Working alongside internationally recognised specialists, she honed the ability to acquire and interpret complex imaging studies with a high degree of accuracy, skills that have made her one of the most trusted professionals in the field today.
After completing her advanced training, she stayed on at the AHT as a Junior Clinician in the Centre for Equine Studies. In this role, she not only contributed to investigations of challenging lameness and performance cases but also took on the significant responsibility of overseeing the diagnostic imaging department.
Her work included supervising interns and staff, ensuring quality standards were met, and supporting research initiatives within the clinic.
A Leading Educator in Veterinary Imaging
Dr. Laura Quiney’s passion for teaching naturally evolved into her next career phase. She joined IMV Imaging, Europe’s largest provider of diagnostic imaging CPD, where she held several key roles including Clinical Manager, Clinical Applications Team Manager, and ultimately Head of Clinical Education.
At IMV, she:
- Delivered CPD in equine musculoskeletal ultrasonography, radiography, and canine abdominal imaging
- Created educational resources ranging from webinars and video tutorials to articles and case studies
- Contributed to product development and provided clinical support to practitioners
- Helped guide the teaching strategies behind some of the industry’s most widely used imaging platforms
Her ability to break down complex imaging concepts into accessible, practical training materials earned her recognition as one of the most effective educators in the field.
