Few professionals bridge the worlds of human and equine performance as seamlessly as Dr. Emma Mathlin. With a career dedicated to physiotherapy, sports science, and biomechanics, she has become a leading voice in equestrian performance and rehabilitation, trusted by elite athletes and grassroots riders alike.
A Career Built on Science and Practical Insight
Dr. Emma Mathlin holds dual master’s degrees in animal physiotherapy and exercise and sports science, complementing her foundation as a qualified physiotherapist. Her academic path reflects both breadth and depth: from treating human athletes to investigating the biomechanics of horses and riders.
As part of her postgraduate research, she conducted a landmark study exploring how rider experience influences the kinematics of show jumping horses, work that has practical implications for training, performance, and injury prevention.
This commitment to blending evidence-based science with real-world application mirrors the goals of equine sports medicine and rehab training offered through the Practitioner’s Program, and it became the foundation for her co-founding Equimotion with fellow physiotherapist and equine specialist Dr. Kristin Dean.
Together, they created a service dedicated to delivering proven rehabilitation and performance solutions, empowering riders and owners to take an active role in recovery and long-term management.
