BVM&BVS(Hons) MRCVS CertAVP DACVIM-LAIM

Dr. Camilla Jamieson is an internationally trained equine internal medicine specialist whose career spans multiple continents, top academic institutions, and some of the world’s most demanding equine medical environments.

Now serving as Assistant Professor of Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care at Purdue University, she is recognized for her clinical excellence, groundbreaking contributions to foal critical care, and her commitment to advancing veterinary education.

Early Life and Education

Born in rural Vermont, Dr. Camilla Jamieson grew up with a love of animals and an ambition to pursue veterinary medicine. Her formative years were spent across the United States, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Qatar, an international upbringing that shaped her adaptability and global perspective.

She was among the first graduating class of the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, earning her veterinary degree in 2011 after earlier completing a Bachelor of Veterinary Medical Science (BVMedSci). From the beginning of her studies, she pursued equine-focused externships, cementing her dedication to the field.

Specialist Training and Board Certification

After graduation, Dr. Camilla Jamieson completed an internship at Lingfield Equine Vets in Surrey, where she later became an associate veterinarian. Her growing interest in equine medicine drew her back to the United States for advanced training at Oklahoma State University, where she completed both a fellowship and a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine.

Her residency culminated in board certification with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in 2018, marking her as a Diplomate in Large Animal Internal Medicine, and she continues to expand her knowledge through the equine foal medicine continuing education offered by the Practitioner’s Program for veterinarians seeking specialized skills in neonatal and critical care.

International Clinical Career

Following residency, Dr. Camilla Jamieson gained diverse hands-on experience in private practice in Houston, Texas, where she worked with high-performance horses across rodeo, ranching, jumping, and dressage disciplines. This sharpened her skills in sports medicine and lameness, while reinforcing her passion for equine emergency care.

In 2018, she accepted a role at the Equine Veterinary Medical Center (EVMC) in Doha, Qatar, a Qatar Foundation initiative. Over the next four years, she played a pivotal role in building the hospital’s internal medicine and anesthesia services from the ground up, with a strong focus on neonatal intensive care and infectious disease management.

Her work in the Middle East not only expanded the region’s veterinary capacity but also deepened her expertise in conditions unique to desert climates and Arabian horses.

Return to the U.S. and Academic Leadership

In 2022, Dr. Camilla Jamieson returned to the United States, first serving as a locum emergency clinician at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, one of the world’s premier equine hospitals. In early 2023, she joined the faculty at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine as Assistant Professor of Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care.

At Purdue, she combines her clinical expertise with a passion for teaching and mentorship, guiding veterinary students and residents through the demanding but rewarding field of equine emergency medicine. Her colleagues and trainees consistently describe her as a dedicated, knowledgeable, and inspiring educator.

Beyond Veterinary Medicine

Outside of her professional life, Dr. Camilla Jamieson is an avid equestrian and is currently training her KWPN gelding, Architect, for competition on the Indiana dressage circuit. She balances her work with active pursuits such as yoga, rock climbing, stand-up paddleboarding, and SUP yoga. Whether at the clinic, in the barn, or outdoors, she embraces challenge and discipline in every area of life.
