Sarah Gold – Supporting Elite Equine Athletes at the Highest Level

DVM, DACVSMR

Sarah Gold’s path to becoming a leading figure in equine sports medicine began far from the competition arenas she would one day serve. Born in Nuremberg, Germany and raised in Suffern, New York, she developed an early interest in animal physiology and high-level performance.

Her academic journey started at Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, where she graduated cum laude in 2000 with a degree in Animal Science. She continued at Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2004.

Internship and Early Professional Development

Following veterinary school, Sarah Gold completed a demanding internship at the Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center in the Santa Ynez Valley of California. This immersive year provided extensive exposure to advanced clinical techniques, complex medical cases, and performance-related injuries.

The experience broadened her clinical perspective and laid the groundwork for the specialties she would later pursue.

Career at B.W. Furlong & Associates

In 2005, Sarah Gold joined B.W. Furlong & Associates, marking the beginning of an influential chapter in her career. She dedicated nearly two decades to the practice, concentrating on lameness diagnostics, regenerative medicine, and advanced imaging. Her commitment to the performance horse ultimately led her to roles supporting elite-level athletes.

During her tenure, she served as an assistant team veterinarian for the United States Eventing Team. Her contributions took her to major national and international competitions, including the 2008 Olympic Games and the 2010 World Equestrian Games. These assignments reinforced her reputation as a precise, calm, and highly skilled clinician in high-pressure environments.

Leadership in Equine Diagnostic Imaging

Sarah Gold’s deep expertise in diagnostic imaging became a defining strength in her professional identity. She served as a key leader at both Equine MRI of New Jersey and Advanced Equine Imaging of Wellington, overseeing operations, interpreting complex cases, and guiding veterinarians through advanced diagnostic processes.

Based in Wellington for much of the winter season, she became a trusted resource for owners, trainers, and veterinarians working with top-tier sport horses.
