Dr. Leanne Begg graduated from the University of Queensland in 1987, laying the foundation for a remarkable career defined by specialization and service. The following year, she undertook an internship at the University of Sydney, working under the guidance of the late Professor David Hutchins, a pivotal experience that helped shape her clinical focus and passion for internal medicine.
In 1989, Dr. Begg joined the Randwick Equine Centre (REC), one of Australia’s premier equine veterinary hospitals, as an Associate. After two formative years, she advanced her expertise with a competitive Residency in Equine Medicine at Michigan State University (MSU), where she also earned a Master of Science degree.
Her time at MSU cemented her status as a rising star in the field of veterinary internal medicine.
In 1994, Dr. Begg achieved membership in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) in Equine Medicine and, the following year, became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), one of the most prestigious specialist certifications worldwide.
These achievements earned her formal recognition as a Specialist in Equine Medicine in both Australia and the United States.

Returning to Australia in 1994, Dr. Begg rejoined Randwick Equine Centre, this time as a Partner. She has since become an integral part of the team, offering her advanced knowledge and clinical acumen in diagnosing and managing complex equine medical cases.
At Randwick Equine Specialists’ new Horsley Park facility, she continues to consult on challenging internal medicine referrals, supporting both clients and veterinarians with gold-standard care.
Dr. Begg’s influence also extends beyond the hospital walls. For over two decades, she has served as the Stable Veterinarian for Mrs Gai Waterhouse, one of the most legendary figures in Australian horse racing. This long-standing relationship speaks volumes about the trust and value placed in her judgment, skill, and discretion.
