Rachel A. Lemcke
BS, MS

In an industry where burnout runs high and margins often run thin, Rachel Lemcke is reshaping the future of veterinary medicine, one laboratory at a time. As the founder of Amwell Data Services, Rachel is not just a consultant; she’s a catalyst for sustainable change, helping veterinary practices thrive through strategic laboratory optimization.
Her mission is clear: to support independent veterinary teams in transforming their lab services into profitable, efficient, and patient-focused powerhouses. By bridging the gap between science, strategy, and compassion, Rachel has carved out a unique and vital niche within veterinary business consulting.
Creating a New Path in Veterinary Medicine
In the fall of 2020, Rachel launched a new frontier in veterinary consulting: independent veterinary laboratory consulting. Tired of the sales-driven model often imposed on veterinary teams, she envisioned a brand-agnostic, data-driven, and people-first approach to diagnostics, one that prioritizes transparency, efficiency, and long-term sustainability for practices and their teams.
Through Amwell Data Services, Rachel works with a wide range of practices from start-ups to long-established clinics, and from small animal to equine hospitals, customizing lab services to better serve veterinary professionals and their patients.
Her comprehensive, commission-free consulting spans equipment selection, workflow design, pricing strategy, and even contract negotiation, always with a commitment to independent, unbiased guidance.
From the Bench to the Boardroom: A Deep Well of Expertise
Rachel’s insights are rooted in hands-on experience. Before founding Amwell, she served as Lab Manager at the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center, where she led research initiatives, improved clinical outcomes, and negotiated major cost-saving contracts.
Her projects there ranged from managing endocrinology programs to analyzing diagnostic assays and presenting original research at national veterinary forums.
Her background also includes academic research at Cornell University, where she earned an M.S. in Animal Science and gained deep expertise in reproductive biology. Whether it’s analyzing gene expression in avian follicles or helping practices improve lab throughput, Rachel applies rigorous scientific thinking to everything she does.
Innovator, Advocate, Educator
What sets Rachel Lemcke apart is her visionary leadership paired with practical solutions. She’s not afraid to ask tough questions, like whether external lab benchmarks are truly useful, or how lab optimization can expand access to care. Her work is a masterclass in critical thinking, grounded in compassion for the people and pets served by veterinary professionals.
She’s also a passionate advocate for veterinary teams, helping them see through “smoke and mirrors” pushed by vendors, and empowering them to make informed, financially smart decisions.
Her partnership with Dr. Matthew Gutman, a board-certified veterinary radiologist, has further expanded her service offerings to include imaging equipment consulting, delivering more value without the pressure of sales quotas.
A Whole-Life Perspective
Beyond her groundbreaking work in the veterinary field, Rachel is also an orchid enthusiast, acrylic and watercolor painter, and adoptive mom to a 16.5-year-old farm cat named Sneakers. This multifaceted creativity infuses her professional life with warmth, perspective, and a deep appreciation for both the scientific and human elements of veterinary care.
Why Rachel Lemcke Matters
In a time when veterinary medicine faces rising costs, high turnover, and increasing pressure from corporate consolidation, Rachel Lemcke is a rare voice of independence, integrity, and innovation. Her work is helping veterinary professionals reclaim agency over their operations, enhance their financial viability, and create workplaces where teams can truly thrive.
For any veterinary practice ready to transform its lab from an underutilized department into a vital engine of growth and care, Rachel Lemcke is the expert to call.
