Dr. Rosemary Cuming’s journey began with her graduation from the University of Sydney in 2008 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc). She quickly immersed herself in the realities of rural mixed practice in New South Wales, gaining hands-on experience across species and contexts, a foundation that continues to inform her comprehensive, practical approach to equine medicine.
In 2010, she joined the prestigious Scone Equine Hospital as an Emergency Medicine and Critical Care intern. Her time there was marked by a profound connection with the neonatal foals and a collaborative team environment, prompting her to stay on for a second breeding season at Clovelly, SEH’s renowned foal care unit.
A Global Pursuit of Veterinary Expertise
After several years as a locum veterinarian working across mixed animal practices in Taree, Denman, Scone, and Sydney, Dr. Cuming took her talents to the global stage. In 2013, she relocated to the United States to pursue a combined residency in Large Animal Internal Medicine with an equine focus and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at Auburn University.
Her drive to continually push the boundaries of veterinary medicine culminated in two significant milestones: becoming a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (MANZCVS) in Equine Medicine in 2012, and earning her Diplomate status with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (DACVIM-LAIM) in 2016.
