Ana Boado is a European and American Specialist in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and an equine orthopaedics and imaging consultant based in Spain. She graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the Complutense University of Madrid in 2001, before completing an internship at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket and a period in ambulatory equine practice.

Dr. Boado then undertook a residency in Equine Orthopaedics at the University of Edinburgh, gaining the RCVS Certificate in Equine Orthopaedics in 2008 and later recognition as an Advanced Practitioner in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics).

She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2016 and a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2019. Since 2008, Ana has worked as a second-opinion and imaging consultant for private clinics, referral hospitals and first-opinion practices, with a particular focus on sports medicine, lameness diagnosis and the management of performance horses, especially dressage horses.

The University of Madrid Alumni is deeply involved in postgraduate education. She serves as an assistant professor and collaborator on several MSc programs, including Equine Physiotherapy at the Complutense University of Madrid and Equine Sports Medicine at the University of Córdoba, and contributes to practical teaching at the Complutense University of Madrid. One of her recent co-authored studies is A Retrospective Study of the Evolution of Orthopaedic Injuries in 70 Dressage Horses.

Dr. Boado is a regular member of scientific committees at national meetings, an invited speaker at national and European congresses (including ECVSMR events), and has more than 20 years’ experience teaching veterinary surgeons in CPD courses. Ana has published several clinical articles in peer-reviewed journals and is actively engaged in clinical research on orthopaedic problems in sport horses.
