Equine Ophthalmology Made Practical

A comprehensive program that shows you exactly how to diagnose, treat, and manage equine eye disease – from the first exam to advanced surgical decision-making.

10 Modules | RACE-Accredited CE/CPD | Access Anytime

Never feel out of your depth on an eye case again. On-demand, self-paced modules you can access anywhere – perfect for busy equine veterinarians who want learn the complete clinical workflow.

Did you know that eye problems are the fourth most common reason horses are seen by veterinarians?

What You’ll Learn to Do…

Diagnose equine eye conditions confidently – from subtle corneal changes to advanced uveitis.

Apply structured treatment frameworks for ulcers, uveitis, and adnexal disease.

Choose the right medications, dosages, and delivery methods (SPLs, subconjunctival, implants).

Decide when surgery is necessary and which options give the best outcome.

Communicate prognosis and next-step care plans clearly to owners.

Why Eye Cases Are Different?

Every equine veterinarian will face the moment when an owner calls about an eye problem:

  • A cloudy cornea that could be uveitis… or glaucoma.
  • A corneal ulcer that is deeper than expected.
  • A horse suddenly head-shy, squinting, or tearing.

You know the stakes are high. Delay or missteps can mean permanent vision loss. Yet most general practitioners feel under-prepared when these cases appear.

The result: stress for the vet, poor outcomes for the horse, and shaken trust from clients.

The Program: A Practical Solution

The Ophthalmology Program equips you with a step-by-step framework for equine eye care:

  • Examine with confidence – structured ophthalmic exams you can rely on every time.
  • Recognize red flags early – and know exactly when to refer.
  • Treat with precision – from simple ulcers to complex surgical cases.
  • Communicate clearly with owners – realistic expectations, explained with authority.

Early in my career, eye cases terrified me. What changed everything was learning from Professor Dennis Brooks DVM PhD DACVO. His calm, his system, his results. That’s why we built this program: so no vet faces that panic alone again.

This isn’t abstract theory.

It’s real-world ophthalmology, distilled by specialists who manage these cases daily and want you to succeed in the field. With frameworks, checklists, and protocols you can apply tomorrow, you’ll move from hesitation to confidence in every eye case.

Your All-Star Lecturers

Professor Dennis Brooks has brought together an exceptional faculty of world-class equine ophthalmologists – the quality of experts you’d want on speed dial when you’re standing in the field with a horse’s eye emergency and a worried owner.

You’ll learn from specialists such as Brittany Martabano, DVM, MS, DACVO, on recognizing the early signs of uveitis and glaucoma; Bianca Martins, DVM, PhD, DACVO, on managing corneal ulcers before they rupture; and the ever-popular Professor Richard Joseph McMullen, Dr.med.vet, Dipl.ACVO, Dipl.ECVO, covering triage, IMMK, ultrasound, and much more.

And when you’re working through your toughest eye cases, these speakers are accessible for direct feedback and real-world support in the private community, helping you apply what you’ve learned with confidence.

Inside the Program (10 Modules)

Each of the ten modules includes 4–6 lectures, with each lesson running for approximately 30 minutes. Modules are released gradually, allowing new content to unlock according to the program schedule – helping you maintain a steady pace and clear structure throughout your learning journey.

After each lecture, you’ll complete a short quiz to reinforce key concepts. At any point during the program, you can download your Certificate of Completion, which details the total number of RACE-approved CE credits you’ve earned (up to 31.5 credits).

I’m Dennis Brooks, and my career has been devoted to advancing equine ophthalmology through research, clinical practice, and education.

After earning my DVM at the University of Illinois and completing a residency in comparative ophthalmology at the University of Florida, I went on to achieve board certification with the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.

Over the past three decades, I’ve performed more successful equine corneal surgeries than any veterinarian worldwide. Alongside my clinical practice, I’ve dedicated my career to teaching and mentorship:

  • Trained 31 equine ophthalmology residents
  • Taught 3,400+ veterinary students
  • Mentored 76 visiting veterinarians at the University of Florida

My work spans over 100 referred papers and 80+ book chapters, along with several textbooks that have shaped the way veterinarians worldwide approach equine eye disease.

By combining rigorous science with practical field experience, my goal has always been to equip veterinarians with the skills, frameworks, and confidence to handle even the most complex eye cases.

To deliver the best program, I have hand-selected the most internationally respected ophthalmologists, each of whom has delivered tremendous training that I am proud to share. I encourage you to dive into these modules, apply what you learn in practice, and join us in raising the standard of equine eye care worldwide.

The program is built for busy equine vets. Lessons are short (average 30 minutes), available on-demand, and can be streamed on your phone, tablet, or computer. You can also download summaries to read and review between cases.

It works for both. Early-career vets will gain structured frameworks to build confidence, while experienced practitioners will sharpen their decision-making and stay current with advanced treatments. You choose the pace and depth.

Even if you refer, this training improves your triage, stabilisation, and owner communication. That means better outcomes for horses, more trust from clients, and more respect from referral hospitals.

The program is RACE-accredited for 31.5 credits. A certificate of completion with your hours is available to download directly from your dashboard.

We stand behind the quality. Try it risk-free: If it isn’t the most practical ophthalmology training you’ve taken, email us within 30 days for a full refund. Make sure to read the hundreds of testimonials from previous students of The Equine Practice Company.

Traditional ophthalmology training/certifications can cost $10,500+ once you add travel, fees, and lost clinic time. This program delivers the same depth of training – and more – at a fraction of the cost. One correctly managed eye case will more than pay for your enrollment.
